The Information and Document Management Department, which was established in 1987 as Archives Department, gave its first graduates in 1992. With the decision of the Higher Education Council in 2002, the name of the Department was changed to Information and Document Management Department.

With this change, the department, whose course content was enriched, began to provide training in librarianship, archiving, museum management, document management and information technologies.
